Apple's thinnest, most elegantly crafted iPhone deserves a camera app that's just as stunning

When the iPhone 17 lineup launched, I couldn't choose. So I bought both.

iPhone 17 Pro Max

I got the iPhone 17 Pro Max for its three cameras and all the professional photography power Apple could pack into a device. As the creator of DIGIX AMR1, I needed to test our camera app across every lens configuration.

But then I held the iPhone Air.

iPhone Air

At just 5.6mm thick with a polished Grade 5 titanium frame weighing only 165 grams, it took my breath away. This wasn't just another iPhone—it was a return to what made me fall in love with design in the first place. The luxurious feeling, the impossibly thin profile, the way it disappears in your hand while somehow feeling more precious than ever.

I bought it immediately.

And then I realized something: this beautiful device deserved a camera app just as beautiful.

Design That Honors Craftsmanship

When I started designing DIGIX AMR1 back in 2019, I spent months studying classic film cameras. I purchased a Canon AE-1 and Minolta SR-1—legendary Japanese 35mm film cameras from the 1980s—and brought them into the office. I measured every dial, studied every texture, felt the weight of real craftsmanship in my hands.

I wanted to create a camera app that honored those masterpieces.

Open DIGIX AMR1 on your iPhone Air, and something magical happens. The screen transforms into a stunning recreation of those classic cameras—silver metal body, black leather texture, precision tactile dials, and a fluid light meter needle.

The visual design isn't decoration—it's philosophy. Just as the iPhone Air's titanium frame honors premium metal construction, DIGIX AMR1's interface pays tribute to timeless camera aesthetics. Every control is exactly where you'd expect it. The dials rotate with satisfying haptic clicks that our developer Vitalii spent weeks perfecting. The sliders feel tactile and deliberate. The shutter fires with an authentic camera sound.

It's beautiful to use because it was designed to be beautiful—just like the iPhone Air itself.

One Perfect Lens: The Prime Lens Philosophy

When I first used the iPhone Air's single 48MP camera, some people asked if I felt limited.

I felt liberated.

The iPhone Air doesn't have three cameras—it has one perfect one. This isn't a limitation. It's a return to photographic purity, to what we call the prime lens philosophy.

Classic cameras often featured prime lenses: single, fixed focal length lenses prized for exceptional optical quality and intentional composition. Even now, extremely popular digital cameras like the Fujifilm X100V—a $1,600 camera inspired by classic 1980s designs—has only a prime lens. Here's what makes them special: you can't zoom. You have to move. You have to get closer to your subject.

This changes everything.

Instead of standing back and zooming in, you step forward. You engage with your environment. You make deliberate choices about distance, perspective, and connection. You become more intimate, more intentional, more creative with every shot.

This is how legendary photographers worked—one lens, pure vision, intentional movement.

When I developed DIGIX AMR1, I built it for exactly this kind of photography. With manual controls for focus, shutter speed, ISO, and exposure compensation, your iPhone Air becomes what it was always meant to be: a precision instrument for intentional photography.

The combination of the iPhone Air + DIGIX AMR1 camera app is stunning:

  • Titanium craftsmanship meets vintage camera design

  • Single camera focus meets manual creative control

  • Minimalist philosophy meets beautiful interface

  • Prime lens discipline meets creative freedom

A Camera App Worth the Hardware

I launched DIGIX AMR1 in December 2020, years before the iPhone Air was even imagined. But when I got my hands on the Air, I knew immediately that this phone and this app were meant for each other.

Both celebrate craftsmanship over feature bloat. Both honor photographic tradition while embracing modern technology. Both believe that beauty matters—not just in the final photo, but in every moment of creating it.
